I wanted to say a big thank you to L Plates and my driving instructor, Mark Napier, as i managed to pass my driving test first time on Friday 14th September! After seventeen years of riding motorcycles, i finally decided this year that i would have a go at driving a car, instead. ( It was something i had wanted to do for a long time, but didn’t like the idea of having to go through taking lessons and doing a test, again!). Still, i need not have worried, as it turned out to be a lot easier and more enjoyable than i had imagined. Mark was an excellent instructor, friendly and the most calm and patient person i have ever met!!! He helped me a great deal with learning to drive, which, (as you can imagine), is a totally different concept to riding a bike! He gave me some good advice and reference points i could use when doing one of the manoueves. I would highly recommend Mark to anyone who wants to learn to drive. Thanks again! Elaine Coventon. Hiya. My name is Jason and I passed my driving test on the 11/9/12 withJohn Eacher. Well what can I say about Mr Eacher, John is amazing guy Ive been with John for around ten months and I haven't been the easiest to teach but John has stuck with me through start to finish and if I screwed up he told me not to worry made a joke which eased my nerves alot. Ive had some tough times in my personal life this past year but John has been there and cheered me up and as you can see got me though my test.

Penny Powell was recommended to me via a friend of mine and ex student of Penny's - I was told that she was a thorough instructor who helped her gain the skills and confidence she needed to pass first time.
I've had driving lessons on and off for about 7 years - After the recommendation from my friend, and learning of the competitive prices L-Plates offered, I thought I'd give it one last go with a female instructor. - Previous instructors from other schools had not worked for me. I also had a job offer on the line which involved me needing to have a car.
Penny understood from early on that I had limited time to try and pass my test. I came to her with some bad driving habits which she carefully pointed out and encouraged me to correct. Penny worked hard to help me to see that I was able to drive well but she saw that I often lacked concentration and would let silly things slip. She helped me to build confidence in my driving ability by suggesting new ways of tackling things I found difficult. Penny was always prompt for lessons - and often willing to change pick up's and drop off's with little notice (as long as this did not conflict with prior engagements). She was patient but let you know if she thought you could better.
I passed my test first time which has meant I have secured my job offer and am now in the process of buying a car after 7 years of learning to drive!

I found L Plates provides extremely organised lessons. Jim Eckford worked hard in ensuring I had all available information to improve my driving as fast as possible; sending me emails with helpful hints and tips to remember. Additionally he identified my weaknesses early on, meaning we could tackle these straight away, which smoothed out my driving and built up my confidence. Having not driven for past 7 years and learning to drive in UK for the first time made me very nervous. I had to unlearn few techniques from past to adapt my driving skills for UK specific rules. John Mell was very patient and made me feel competent and build my confidence. He tailored the learning approach for my needs; at the same time gave me the flexibility to chose the manoeuvres/ techniques I wanted to be confident in. Thank you! Colin Dawes was my instructor. He was very easy to get along with, and made everything very clear. If I didn't quite understand something, he was happy to repeat himself. In lessons he was very calm and this allowed me to calm down too, so when it came to my first test I was so nervous with a new person in the car, and that led to a relatively bad drive, and my failing. However, second time around I told my examiner how nervous last time had made me and he allowed me to talk to him, calming me down a lot (despite some very interesting situations on the road arising!). Colin was flexible with times (if you booked in good time!) and when my test was imminent he was happy to run over for a few minutes just to make sure I got in enough practice. Dave Mercer was able to make the challenge of learning to drive enjoyable and uncomplicated. I have had other instructors in the past but found Dave's high and exacting standards very reassuring in what is quite a stressful process. Dave has the skill of all good teachers in that he recognises your individual strengths and weaknesses and tailors his instructions accordingly. Dave's main concern was to teach me to drive as well as I could rather than just teach me to pass the test. As a result I found my test fairly straightforward and surprisingly enjoyable as Dave had ensured I was equipped to pass first time. He did this without dragging out the number of lessons I needed meaning I was also able to pass fairly quickly. Jim Eckford was my second driving instructor. With the first one (privately found, not an L Plates instructor) I had two or three driving practice lessons full of screams and horror. Then I contacted Jim. Almostimmediately, I received his friendly and informative reply and appointed the first session. What a difference it was compared to my previous experience! Nice, soft, friendly and highly professional guidance helped me to overcome the problems I had in the beginning. We had a lot of training sessions, and I must say every single one of them were both a pleasure and useful experience that eventually helped to pass my driving test. Jim is a very kind and friendly person and, at the same time, a greatprofessional who knows exactly how to prepare his pupils for the driving test.
So my advice: don't waste time on random "driving instructors", call Jim and pass your driving test. Thanks to L Plates for bringing together those who need to pass their

Jim was always very positive and put me at ease whilst driving. When I passed I received a photo and L Plates Certificate which Jim gave to me after the test. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Jim Eckford for helping me pass my driving test first time. I have used a different driving school in the past but even after many lessons, never felt comfortable to take my test. Jim was so patient and a really great teacher. After a few lessons and a lot of really effective tuition Jim increased my confidence and had me ready for my Test. I was really nervous on the day but Jim really helped put me at ease. I couldn't have done it without him and my new found independence is all thanks to Jim. He even gave me photos and a certificate the next day. Katherine Campbell from Eastbourne said "learning to drive was something I never thought I was capable of doing, eventhe thought of it used to scare me. I assumed that i would be a bad driver or that it would about ten years to accomplish! So my driving instructor would have to be phenomenally good to pass me (as well as have the patience of a saint and the ability to calm me when I am hyperventilating over the clutch!) The minute I stepped in to the car, John Eacher put me at ease and most importantly made me laugh, which in turn enabled me to relax and woth each lesson I grew in confidence, as John made me realise that I might actually have a shot at this. I had a lot of large gaps between lessons due to caring for my terminally ill mother, but I never felt pressure from my instructor during our lessons ,he did not get annoyed or impatient with me in fact his ability to remain calm in any situation my driving put us in(and often make me laugh at the same time ) meant that I actually managed to pass in under a year which is nothing short of a miracle!
I would recommend L-Plates to anyone who is considering learning to drive, because if I can pass then anyone can!"
