So when i met Raj i was a useless driver i didn't understand a thing but i kept my head up and tried learning and i passed ...1st time i should add. my family were more than shocked cause i was terrible lol. My driving instructor Frank McClaren was what I expected from a driving instructor and more. He exceeded my expectations in every department. He was flexible with his lessons to work around my shift work, his knowledge and general instructing skills were a level above and to top it off he is a brilliant guy who makes you feel at ease from beginning to end. I had my instructor John Leeming for around 4 months from start to finish, I was a complete beginner who had never sat in the drivers seat before, but John helped me in just 4 months to pass my theory and practical tests 1st time. John is a wonderful instructor who is calm and made me feel comfortable from the get go. Having John Mell as a driving instructor was great. He taught me thoroughly and was always truthful with me. He didn't rush me into doing my practical and he knew when I was ready this is why I passed first time. Before I began driving with L Plates I had been learning on and off for 3 years, and was low in confidence and very anxious at the thought of driving lessons. When I began my lessons with Tina and in an automatic it changed my driving experience! I felt so much more confidence and like I could drive anywhere, Tina trusted that I could do it so she never got too involved and simply let me get on with it. I had my driving lessons with Raj for approximately a year and I could not have asked for a better experience. Raj not only taught me how to pass my driving test but also how to be a safe driver afterwards. During my lessons with Raj he always remained calm, explained exactly what I did wrong and got me to do it right the next time around. If I didn't understand how to do a manoeuvre or made a mistake Raj would take out his iPad and find different ways to explain it until I really understood it and could do it on my own!. I contacted L-PLates having looked through multiple positive reviews of the firm and its instructors online. Their prices were also very competitive for the Brighton market. I was lucky enough to have Ray B. As my instructor. I have had some driving experience but not confident on the road. Immediately Ray assisted in putting me at ease behind the wheel giving me a lot of useful pointers and tips. My experience with this company and one of its instructors was one I won't forget as I have now gained my own licence. Although the it took me a year to drive I feel like my instructor (Frank MCLaren) was very very supportive throughout times when I was under stress. I experienced highs and lows with learning how to drive as I feel most individuals do but, Frank supported me and gave me the reassurance that I was heading in the right direction to gain my licence. This is why I rated the service very high. Money wise I personally found it reasonable as I was paying myself however I do feel paying in instalments would have been easier for example: £100 up front for a few lessons then knowing you were covered for the next few lessons. I had a really brilliant experience with my driving instructor ray. I saw a huge amount of improvement in a short amount of time and my confidence was growing every lesson. Ray would go the extra mile for students, he would explain things in many ways instead of just explaining. He would sometimes even show you with a little toy car which really helped! He also explained things using his iPad where there were videos and imagery that also really helped. Ray obviously takes time to think about how everyone learns differently and how he can get through to every type of learner and give them the best teaching experience. Another thing that really helped me was how calm ray would be when I made mistakes. He would always just say leave it behind you and carry on your a good driver. Lastly what I found really helpful with l plates is the book we are given to help us keep track of our success. When ray would go through this with me it really helped me understand where I was with my driving and how long before I was ready to do a test. Ray would go through the book with me and show me what I had achieved so far. Overall I had a lovely experience and I would definitely reccomend Ray to anyone wanting driving lessons, in fact I've already given his number out twice!! Thankyou for helping me pass. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my driving lesson process. It took me around year all in all to pass. However, I feel my experience was extremely satisfying. My instructor Colin always had a calming influence over me and was never at all flustered by anything. His ability to direct you honestly and openly about where you were at really allowed me to concentrate on constantly improving. This made the lessons a lot more purposeful and as such increased my driving skills. Also the ability to interact and have humorous conversations along the way only enhanced the whole process. I had Colin as my driving instructor and I have had two previous people from different companies and Colin by far was the best! The first lesson I had he was just so reassuring and polite and was showing confidence within me and my driving! He understood that I wanted to do it as quickly as possible but he kept me level headed and explained where I need to get to before being able to take the test. His lessons got more and more challenging and was always good lessons because we were using the roads that will be on the test routes, when coming to a situation I haven't seen he would break it down step by step and explain slowly how to deal with the situation! I personally was involved in a bad car accident couple years ago and haven't had a lesson since until using Colin and immediately he understood why I was nervous and helped me get over my fear of driving! I had a great experience with L Plates Driving School, I found their website easy to use in terms of finding prices and instructors in my area. My instructor Sue got in touch with me quickly, and immediately put me at ease over the phone and I knew instantly that I would do well with her. She is friendly and extremely calming and patient and great at explaining things in a way that is easy to absorb. She is great at reading you and your ability, knowing when to support and encourage and when to push you harder. She had every confidence in me which helped me to be confident in myself. I loved every minute of learning to drive with my instructor Frank. He taught me everything I needed to know for my test and more and he had an extremely calm and considerate approach to everything.
His car was always immaculate and well maintained and he always helped me with any problems I had.
Frank always managed to get me a lesson when I wanted one and gave me priority over others when it came to around my test date that defiantly helped me out.
Frank and I were always on the same page and he never rushed me or made me not progress enough. He was also firm but fair when he came to his marking on the mock tests - something that I am extremely grateful for!
I was recommended to use Frank and L Plates via my sister and I am so glad that I did. After only 20 minutes from contacting the school, I already had my first lesson booked!
Overall it was an absolute pleasure having Frank teach me and I have and still will recommend Frank and L Plates to anyone mentioning that they are looking for a driving instructor and I am looking forward to completing my Pass Plus with him! Harvey Cranford. Worthing.

Passing my driving test has been a long and trying affair. I started having lessons at 22 however put them on hold to go to medical school. Following graduation I had a series of lessons in London before moving to Brighton, at which time I started getting lessons with Ray Brewster of L plates driving school. I found Ray to be a patient, thorough, and easy going instructor who was a pleasure to work with. He gave me plenty of confidence and ensured that I was not only ready for my test, but capable of driving confidently on my own after passing. I couldn't recommend him highly enough. I was taught by Colin and took my test in Tunbridge Wells. He was the best instructor I could have asked for. I was terrified at first, but he quickly helped me gain confidence and was a very calming influence. He never raised his voice when I did something wrong which is exactly what you need, and always reinforced the fact that mistakes were normal in order to learn and progress. Collin was always willing to answer any questions I had about driving, the test procedures, insurance or potential first cars too. As as naturally nervous person, I never thought I could be taught to be a confident driver, but that's exactly what Colin has helped me be! I would recommend him, and L Plates, to any learner.
